Matriark Foods
Bio:
Anna Hammond is the Founder and CEO of Matriark Foods, an environmental impact food company building a circular food future. Matriark partners with large vegetable manufacturers and regional farmers to upcycle byproducts and surplus into delicious, healthy, shelf-stable products that divert food from landfills, pay farmers for their surplus, and create more access to healthy food. Matriark sells upcycled ingredients to large manufacturers and finished products to institutional foodservice, retail, and emergency food providers. Everything the company produces has data-backed environmental impacts on food waste and GHG reductions, and water savings.
Before launching Matriark, Hammond spent 20 years in the nonprofit sector holding leadership positions at MoMA and Yale University and a stint as a community liaison for the Rockland County Legislature, where she helped establish the Rockland County Farm Alliance. She then moved to build a healthy eating program for youth and families in NYC’s public housing, where she was inspired to simultaneously solve the problems of wasted food, new markets for farmers, and access to nutritious meals.
She has three sons, all of whom hold positions that make positive contributions to society, and four grandchildren who will.
