Selene Alencastro is an Environmental Engineer with a dual master’s degree from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and École des Mines de Nantes France. With over two decades of experience, she has built a distinguished career driving systemic change in waste management and circular economy across Mexico and Latin America.
Her work spans the public, private, academic, and international sectors, collaborating with leading global organizations such as the German Agency for International Cooperation, the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Wide Fund for Nature, and the World Bank. She has played a key role in shaping Mexico’s agenda on Food Loss and Waste (FLW), contributing to national diagnostics, strategic frameworks, and high-level intersectoral coordination that laid the foundation for transformative action in the sector.
In 2018, she founded SIPRA (Soluciones Integrales para la Problemática Ambiental), positioning it as a catalyst for turning environmental challenges into benefit. Through her leadership, Selene has driven pioneering state-level FLW diagnostics and designed results-based methodologies enabling different sectors along the supply chain to dramatically reduce FLW while unlocking verified savings. A trusted strategist known for execution, she consistently transforms complexity into feasible solutions.
